Currently, there is a global market shortage of liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) which is used for packing, cooling and cleaning. Liquid carbon dioxide also is used as carbonation for sparkling beverages. This shortage is causing significant price increases. In some areas, it may warrant the addition of LCO2 extraction and purification capabilities to an RNG plant, providing insulation from the risks associated with the scarcity of LCO2. Liquid Carbon Dioxide converted to dry ice is used for cryogenic packaging and transportation which may see a substantial increase in demand as the COVID-19 vaccine, which requires storage at very low temperatures, is deployed.
NLC Energy has extensive experience with the carbon dioxide liquification process in the Denmark, Wisconsin RNG facility where we have laid the groundwork for production of food and/or beverage grade LCO2 with the International Society of Beverage Technology (ISBT).
