Experience: Our path to get here.
We entered the renewable energy market in 2016 as investors in green energy. NLC Energy brought capital and financing expertise to a joint venture with existing operators in the renewable natural gas industry.
As the joint venture’s facilities began to drastically underperform, we lacked the operational control to force the necessary changes. We faced a decision about whether to retreat from the field or to develop the expertise for in-house management of our operations, outside of the joint venture. At our own expense, we developed an independent capacity to run operations, to perform complex engineering, and to access government incentives in renewable energy. Additionally, we developed our own capability to monetize carbon credits.
In August of 2020, NLC Energy gained full control of ownership and operations. We set out to rebuild the facility’s operations, along with the trust of regulators, vendors and of our communities.
Today, we run a robust, healthy, multi-feedstock, food-waste anaerobic digestion process. Our flagship renewable natural gas facility runs at full capacity with a record of no reportable safety violations. As one of the first digesters to win LCFS approval for accepting feedstocks from multiple dairies at a single facility, we now draw manure from 12 satellite farms. We built and own a decant station with access to the interstate pipeline, where we receive renewable natural gas from other manufacturers. Beyond renewable natural gas, we are the first anaerobic digester in the world to produce ISBT certified beverage-grade liquid C02 and food-grade dry ice.
